Our Story
After living in Japan, founder Danny Taing couldn’t give up the delicious snacks he had discovered.
He even came back to the US with a suitcase full of snacks to share with friends and family. Everyone agreed, the snacks were amazing, but no one could find them in the states. Many of the snacks were local specialties made by family businesses that didn’t sell overseas. So Danny decided to change that.
Since 2016 we’ve grown from Danny packing boxes himself in his living room to a fast-growing team. All of us have different roles to fill from sourcing and creative to marketing and customer experience, but we all have one thing in common: a love of Japanese snacks.
Our mission at Bokksu is to empower Japan’s traditional snackmakers by sharing their authentic food and stories with the world.

Craft & culture
We source our snacks in Japan from a mix of local and well-known makers, and are committed to building lasting partnerships with these makers to bring our members the best Japanese snacks available.

BEHIND THE SCENES
We also do all of our design and marketing ourselves
From the design of the Bokksu box and the monthly culture guide to our photography and advertising, it’s all created by our small but talented Creative Team.
They run our in-office studio where the magic happens, crafted our logo, and make everything else you see from us. Our Marketing Team, well, they’re the ones who make sure you see it!
