Edo Kiriko is a traditional Japanese art of cut glass that originated in Tokyo toward the end of the Edo Period. The black irokise color is unique in Edo Kiriko glassware and adds high contrast to the clear cut pattern across the surface. The repeating vertical, horizontal, and diagonal cuts are finished to enhance the monotone color and accentuate the glass' sparkle. Like all Edo Kiriko glassware, it is as much a work of art as it is a piece of tableware.

The design was devised by Haruki Ishizuka, a Japanese Traditional Craftsman of "Glass Studio Saiho". A Japanese Traditional Craftsman is a title given to craftsmen with advanced and outstanding traditional techniques and techniques, certified by the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan.
